Activism at Edgehill
Edgehill UMC has a long and proud history of activism and community organizing. Since 1966, we’ve been engaged in movements for justice—including racial integration, housing rights, prison reform, immigrant rights, and the full inclusion of LGBTQIA+ people in both church and society. Our commitment to justice continues today as we respond to the pressing needs of our community and world. Scroll down to explore some of the ways you can join us in this work.
Advocating for our Immigrant Neighbors
We have been deeply involved in opposing the recent harmful and discriminatory state legislation against our immigrant neighbors by speaking out, meeting with our legislators, protesting at the State General Assembly, and standing in solidarity with our immigrant neighbors as they face deportation and other unjust laws. Nashville Organized for Action & Hope
Edgehill is a founding member of Nashville Organized for Action and Hope (NOAH). NOAH is a faith-led coalition that is multi-racial and interdenominational. Comprised of congregations, community organizations, and labor unions, our members work to give voice to traditionally marginalized people.
NOAH engages ordinary people in the political and economic decisions affecting their lives, acting as a unified voice for the faith and justice community to act on its values in the public arena. NOAH does not endorse political candidates but gets them to endorse our issues agenda, and pledge to work with NOAH if they are elected.
Issues that are important to our member groups are researched and acted upon by NOAH Task Forces (Affordable Housing; Education; Criminal Justice Reform; and Economic Equity, Jobs, and Transportation). Edgehill is deeply invested in the work of NOAH.
Edgehill members serve on NOAH Task Forces and help organize major Public Meetings with various officials. We also know that powerful community organizing begins with listening to one another to see where God is collectively leading us next!
You can get involved by:
Meeting with Edgehill UMC’s Core Team to learn more.
Being trained to interview other Edgehill folks about their passions and interests.
Attending a NOAH Task Force meeting.
Attending a NOAH Public Meeting with the Mayor and other officials to get commitments.
